Artist Interview: Sam Yeates



What is your name: Sam Yeates

Do you have a formal art education or are you a self taught artist:  BFA in Fine Arts… North Texas State University

What is the style of your pieces: Narrative and figurative with a touch of magic realism

What is the medium in which you work:  oil and acrylics

What started you on your path as an artist: drawing as a child

What is one of the most important things that art has brought to your life:  A sense of identity.

Do you have art showings, and if so what are they typically like: They are usually group or one man shows in galleries.

Do you have a certain set of clothes you make art in: no

What has been the most frustrating part of being an artist? It is so much at the whim of the economy.

What is your favorite sandwich of all time: Ham and cheese.


Who is your favorite artist alive or dead:  Diego Velasquez

What is the most moving piece of artwork that you have seen in person: David by Michelangelo

Do you have any animals, and what do they think of your work:  I have two Whippets and they are very supportive in a detached kind of way.
