Call to Artists Texas: It's Time! Art City Austin Applications are LIVE!

Art Alliance Austin personally invites you to apply for Austin’s original fine arts festival exhibit at Art City Austin 2017 – March 31st-April 2nd!

2017 marks the 67th year of this event, but just the second at this extraordinary new venue that received rave reviews from guests and artists alike. Art City Austin is unique in its pairing of an art festival with a boutique gallery art fair all as a single art experience. Approximately 125 artists will exhibit outdoors and under the canopy and 25 galleries will exhibit inside the Palmer Event Center. This is a special venue with lots of shade, about 2/3rds of the booths are under a massive canopy.

We’ve been working closely with an artist committee to improve the event and make it better for you.  Here are a few changes:

  • New Booth Pricing - $550 is now our standard booth price.
  • Revised site plan – We added more booths under the canopy, packing more together and tightening the aisles to create a more energetic art buying experience.  Additionally, we have eliminated booths on the far north end of the drive that received less traffic.
  • Select your booth location
  • New marketing plan – Art Alliance Austin has a new PR and Design team!
  • Revised Friday hours and event – We want patrons to experience ALL of the festival and artists (outdoors and indoors) on a special Friday preview day!  Friday hours have been shortened to 4:00-8:00 PM and food/drinks will be available around the site. Throughout the weekend we’ll be partnering with curators, critics, and other art experts to conduct guest tours of the amazing fine art that makes up Art City Austin!

Please click here to access our online application and apply for the show.  You can also visit https://www.artallianceaustin.org/artcity to see photos from last year.

Call to Artists Hanging Sculpture

Interior Sculpture for new Boston Avenue Dining Facility

The Texas Tech University System seeks to commission an artist to create a pendant sculpture to be suspended from the ceiling inside the new Boston Avenue Dining Facility. This sculpture will be visible from the exterior of the building through three large, two-story, arched, north-facing windows. Ideal submissions will appeal visually both to student users within the building, as well as to passersby who view the work from the exterior alongside surrounding campus architecture. Preferred materials include glass and other light-reflective media; sustainable or energy-efficient materials are also welcomed. Proposals utilizing color and texture are encouraged, as are designs including kinetic elements. To comply with the building’s structural constraints, proposed sculptures should not exceed 1,500 pounds. In order to be considered, submissions must attend to the conceptual goals outlined in this document. Objects that are mass-produced or of standard manufacture are not eligible for consideration.

$70,000 (All Inclusive). This amount is inclusive of all costs associated with this public art project including, but not limited to, artist fees, other consultants’ fees, insurance to cover the scope of the project, materials, fabrication, transportation, and installation (including any site modification).

Artist Call Texas: College of Business Administration Renovation

For complete information: http://esbd.cpa.state.tx.us/bid_show.cfm?bidid=97806.

Project Budget: $235,000 (All Inclusive). This amount is inclusive of all costs associated with this public art project including, but not limited to, artist fees, other consultants’ fees, insurance to cover the scope of the project, materials, fabrication, transportation, and installation (including any site modification).

Project Scope: The Texas Tech University System seeks to commission an artist to create an outdoor public sculpture to be located on the lawn at the Northeast corner of the former College of Business Administration (new home to the College of Mass Communications). In light of the building’s new occupants, Texas Tech seeks designs that engage issues of media literacy and the liberal arts education. Media—both digital and more “traditional” forms—have become increasingly important in our lives, encompassing everything from the political process, to entertainment, to quality of life and beyond. Questions to consider may include: What potential effect(s) do media have on people? What is the role of media in a democratic society? How have media affected broader cultural constructs, and how do they continue to do so? Ideal submissions will unify the newly renovated building and the surrounding campus architecture, and will be made of durable, low-maintenance materials. Proposals incorporating color and texture are welcomed. In order to be considered, submissions must attend to the conceptual goals outlined in this document. Objects that are mass-produced or of standard manufacture are not eligible for consideration

Call to Artist Texas Can You Make Art out of a Keg?

http://monstersofbeer.com/
Live It BIG, Inc. is holding the 2nd Monsters Of Beer Charity Festival on Nov. 12, 2011. The event will take place at Guadalupe Plaza Park in Houston’s East End. We expect to host approximately 3000 attendees with another 500+/- volunteers and brewery personnel at the event. The festival will run from 12-6pm and will have approximately 50 breweries in attendance serving 100 unique craft beers. This isn’t your typical “BMC” beer fest. We want to encourage growth in America’s craft beer and especially in supporting Texas’ craft beer community. All the beer is donated and all net proceeds go to support our 2011 charities: Friday Harbour and Stepping Stones Charter School. For more information, visit our website: www.liveitbig.org.

The Challenge: take a standard, dull keg and make it a work of art.

We have acquired 10 empty, but functional kegs from a Texas brewery. We would like to see what the artistic community can do with these rather unfortunate looking receptacles. If your idea is accepted, you will implement your artistic vision on the aforementioned keg, and we will display it for all to see during the Monsters Of Beer Charity Festival. We will offer the kegs for sale at a silent auction to be held during the festival. All proceeds go to Live It BIG, Inc. to support our charitable mission of supporting small, start-up charities in Houston.

The Rules.

1. Idea Details: We’d like to see what you can come up with for the keg. Please provide the following:

a. a written description of your idea/what you intend to do

b. a list of materials you intend to use (at least for now)

c. a visual representation of the intended finished product

d. and a bio of yourself

e. together in one PDF file (sorry, not all of our Board members have Adobe Illustrator)

2. Submission Deadline: Your idea will need to be submitted to cathy@liveitbig.org by Aug. 20, 2011. A committee will review all submissions and will choose 10 designs. The committee will be made up of the three Board Members of Live It BIG, Inc. and Diane Barber of Diverse Works. Designs can be submitted in paper form as well as long as it is post-marked by August 20th. Mail submissions to 4108 Lillian St., Unit D, Houston, TX 77007.

3. Announcement of Selected Designs: We will announce the selected designs on August 31, 2011. We will make a formal announcement on our website, www.monstersofbeer.com.

4. Keg Must Remain Functional: We envision that these kegs will be bid upon by local home brewers who will want to use them in their normal brewing and beer storage processes. Thus, the kegs’ integrity must remain intact – i.e. you can’t puncture the vessel, lessen the thickness of the keg wall, nor should you do anything that would impede the functionality of the keg collar (the place where you attach the keg pump, etc.). Also, since beer typically tastes better cold, the keg will still need to fit in a refrigerator or typical trash can after the artist is done with his/her design. Other than that, feel free to go to town with your design.

5. Rights To Photos: All artists will retain the rights to photos of the kegs for any use other than for sale. Rights to the photos will be shared by the artist and Live It BIG, Inc. and the ultimate purchaser of the keg. Keg ownership will transfer to the silent auction winner upon payment and all rights by Live It BIG, Inc. to the keg (other than photographic) cease at that time. Artists agree that the kegs provided to them are on loan only and that they retain no rights of ownership to the kegs at any time.

6. Taking Possession of the Keg: Artists will be given their kegs by appointment on Sept 1, 2 or 3rd.

7. Final Product Due: Kegs must be completed and delivered to 4108 Lillian St., Unit D, Houston, TX 77007 by Nov. 1, 2011. We will post photos of the kegs on our website and will also post short biographies of each artist along with the inspiration behind the keg design and any other information the artist deems important in interpreting his/her design. We hope to partner with a local media group to publish the photos, artist bios and the purpose of the kegs to a larger audience. However, we do not have this lined up at this time and we may not be able to secure such publicity.

8. Free Passes: Each artist whose design is selected will be given 2 VIP passes to the Monsters Of Beer Charity Festival provided the artist and his/her guest is 21 years old as of Nov 12, 2011 (no one under 21 can be admitted). VIP passes aren’t available to the public for purchase, and are only available to media, brewery personnel and volunteers, so you get all the perks of a VIP without the responsibility of any actual duties during the event. The pass entitles you to enter via a VIP entrance, access to the Brewers/Volunteers area where there will be private toilets, food, water and other amenities. There will be bands, food pairing events, and more.

Call to Entry – Showcase of Sculpture New Braunfels Texas

Sculptors Wanted

Compared to the other disciplines in fine art, sculptors are a rare breed.  We cut, bruise, and burn, ourselves more than the rest.  Engineering structures that sometimes topple causes us to scream and swear over our endeavors more than the average painter. We are the Green Berets and the Navy Seals of the artist world.

It’s time we get some respect with a show exclusive to sculpture.
You can display business cards and brochures next to your sculpture to expand your clientele at a prestigious gallery in downtown New Braunfels, Texas, a display of the best of the best.

There will be a large turnout. So if you would like to be a part of this unique opportunity please enter soon to insure your space in the “Showcase of Sculpture”.
Thank you very much.

Call for artists: Human Rights Initiative of North Texas

Through Friday, January 7, 2011
Presented by Human Rights Initiative of North Texas

Human Rights Initiative of North Texas (HRI) is celebrating our new home in Dallas' Wilson Historic District and we want to honor the 55 foundations that have supported and nurtured our work during our first 10 years.

We're looking for an innovative, semi-permanent design to showcase the listing of 55 foundations, and to allow room to add more foundations at a later date. This design would fit on a wall that measures 12 feet long and 12 feet tall. The design should not extend more than one inch from the wall and would be a design that could be removed from the wall when HRI moves its office. The artists/architects will own the copyright of their work.

This competition is open to all artists over age 18. All work entered must be original in concept/execution. Medium is limited to drawings or paintings of the wall design and our budget is limited to $5,000 for materials. Please submit your design on a 24x36 mounted board (that will not be returned).
If your design is selected, you will have the option of participating in its construction. You will be our guest of honor at the unveiling of the wall event. Your name and bio will also be included in our event news release. New, emerging, and established artists are all encouraged to enter.

Human Rights Initiative of North Texas (HRI) is the only agency in North Texas that provides free legal representation to individuals who have suffered human rights abuses in their homelands and have credible asylum cases. HRI has also been able to respond to other legal needs when traditional refugee services have not: in cases of human trafficking and violence against indigent immigrant women and children. For more information on HRI, go to www.hrionline.org

The competition is open through Friday, January 7. Entries should be delivered to the HRI office at 2801 Swiss Avenue at Liberty, 75204 between 9a.m.and 5 p.m. on weekdays. For questions on the competition call Pat Melton at pmelton@hrionline.org
