First Night Austin is a major festival of the arts to be experienced by the whole community in welcoming the New Year. It is unique among Austin’s urban festivals in that it celebrates the downtown cityscape by programming performing and visual arts IN and ON the fabric of the city – building lobbies, storefront windows, church sanctuaries, hotel ballrooms, plazas and parks, street corners, balconies, courtyards, theaters, museums, and more.

With this unique “stage” for the arts, First Night Austin provides an exceptional opportunity for artists, both established and emerging, to expand and explore their creativity, to engage members of the community in their work, and to partner with artists across the disciplines. First Night Austin encourages partnerships between artists, arts organizations and community members in the creative process of developing a proposal for New Year’s Eve.

Artists can be adventurous, try new forms and further their own creative process for audience members who come with fresh expectations, eager to experience something out of the ordinary.

First Night Austin will accept proposals for visual/environmental/interdisciplinary and performance art, music, movement, theater, dance, puppetry, storytelling and the literary arts, film, video, theater, wearable art, participatory craft making, spoken word, comedy, cultural arts, technology art, as well as for participation in the Grand Procession.

First Night Austin includes an afternoon Family Festival, a Grand Procession & Finale, Evening Programming, and a Midnight Spectacular.

First Night Austin is committed to reflect, and be sensitive to, the ethnic, racial, social, cultural, artistic and intellectual diversity of the greater Austin community.

Stay tuned for festival related updates and events as the festival grows near.
