Artist Interview: Bobbye Koncak


What is your name: Bobbye Koncak

Do you have a formal art education or are you a self taught artist: Self Taught

What is the style of your pieces: impressionist, abstract and non-objective. Guess I have a split personality enjoy them all.

What is the medium in which you work: Watercolor is is the medium of preference. Also use acrylic and mixed medium on occasion especially on non-objective work

What started you on your path as an artist: Desire to express myself

What is one of the most important things that art has brought to your life: expression, artist friends and involvement in the art world.

What is your favorite genre of art besides the one you work in: Sulpture

Do you have art showings, and if so what are they typically like: Yes. They are varied gallery, art festivals and art walks. Great being out there and hearing what people think of your work.

Do you have a certain set of clothes you make art in: Several, mostly black with paint splats all over. Nothing too good . Can't be worried about how you look or your clothes when trying to create. "Don't do it too good is my motto" be messy.

What has been the most frustrating part of being an artist? Comision work. It is difficult to know, what another persons vision might be.

What is your favorite sandwich of all time:
Chicken Salad

Has this year brought about any changes in your work, and if so what are they: Leaning more toward abstraction and loosening up.

Who is your favorite artist alive or dead: There are so many but probably Pissaro. On his death bed he said "Damn just when I was beginning to catch on". Love that he kept wanting to learn. In art learnlng is never ending.

What is the most moving piece of artwork that you have seen in person: The Icebergs by Fredric Edwin Church.

Do you have any animals, and what do they think of your work:
No but always thought a baby goat would be fun to have.

Do you have any upcoming exhibitions you would like to share with us:
Downtown Tyler Arts Coalition has new show every six weeks, Edom Festival of the Arts in October and Southwest Watercolor Society 47th Annual Show August 17 - September 25 all of in which I like to participate.
