Thumbprint Gallery will host Aesthetigeist San Diego California Art Exhibit

On March 26th Thumbprint Gallery will host Aesthetigeist, a local artist collective of both emerging and established artists. Jessica Johnson and Craig Hewitt founded the collective of diverse artists of all types, including painters, musicians, and performers.  The collective manifests a meeting ground for talented artists to share with each other and receive encouragement, critique, and collaboration. The collective’s mission statement proclaims that, “As artists we promise the world works of discipline and originality.”

As part of the collective’s show at Thumbprint Gallery, Selena Marinello will be creating an installation that explores the concept of space surrounding the individual.  Marinello focuses on “corners” which she says carries a heavy connotation for each individual.  For example, in Russia corners are where an idol sits for worship.  However, some children may see corners as a place of punishment or a place to count while playing hide-and-seek.  Corners are what usually gives a room its limitations, however the artist wants the viewer to consider space as infinitely expanding beyond the corners.

Jessica Johnson is cofounder of the collective and will be showing at the exhibition.  She draws inspiration from various sources such as fashion, nature, literature, criminology, and oddities of life.  “My work often fuses several of these themes, and I am sometimes led into uncharted territory,” says the artist. The collective’s other founder, Craig Hewitt will be showing new works, which “reflect a love of experimentation, a new mixture of photography, painting, and illustrative techniques topped with a bit of encaustic,” according to Hewitt.  The show will also include Bret J. Barrett, Blake Reagan, Brian Dombrowsky, Dan Allen, Jannelly Herrera, Lucas Thornton, Teddy Pancake, and Thomas Bosworth.

The reception will begin at 6pm and run until 10pm.  Complimentary sangria and beer will be served.  There is no cover for the event and it is open to all ages.  The show will remain on display until April 1.  Thumbprint Gallery is located at 2637 University Avenue in North Park.
