White Walls is pleased to announce Linear Empires, a group exhibition addressing the convergence of fine art and design. Linear Empires will showcase artists working across various mediums, yet united in their pursuit of similar organizing “visual concepts” such as delineation, color blocking, texture, contrast, line and geometry--all varying facets of design.

Linear Empires seeks to highlight the compelling aspects of design within a fine art context by bringing together an exciting group of emerging and mid-career contemporary artists who all showcase elements of design within their work. Mary Iverson uses the contrast of rectangular shipping containers with the dynamic curves of the natural landscape to speak to the way in which private industry has changed our visual relationship to nature. Her canvases are transparently divided by lines generating from different locations on the picture plane, bringing new meaning to the idea of multiple point perspective. In his installation pieces, Moneyless reconfigures three dimensional space by dividing it into geometrical shapes with straight clean lines of yarn or string resulting in angular, spatially organized webs. LA-based artist, Augustine Kofie creates works of intense detail centered on the order of balance. His “drafted” art is inspired by modern architecture as well as the form and shape of typography. Modern notions of design will also be further explored in the work of Geoff Campen, Diana Ruiz, Richard Pearse, Brendan Monroe, and Gregory Ito.
If you missed our January shows make sure to check out the full online exhibition catalogs! Jesse Hazelip's "Belle of the Brawl", Dan Witz's "What the %$#@?!" and Morgan Slade's "Company of Killers."

Cheers,
White Walls
