Miwa Matreyek returns to CAF with Myth and Infrastructure, a mesmerizing multi-media performance with projected animation.

As Matreyek walks behind the screen and interacts, her sillouette merges with fantastical worlds creating a unified animation.  In Myth and Infrastructure, she leads us on mythical trajectories exploring star-lit worlds from the primeval to dense cityscapes that are both familiar and foreign to the human experience. By collapsing reality and fiction she evokes a magical realm of make-believe that is both cinematic and performative, and invites the audience to take a journey with her into the unknown.

Los Angeles-based Matreyek is an internationally recognized animator, designer, and multi-media artist. She creates animated short films as well as live works that integrate animation, performance, and video installation.  Matreyek received her M.F.A. in Experimental Animation and Integrated Media at the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA.  She is a founding member and core collaborator of the performance media group, Cloud Eye Control, makers of theatrical productions with cleverly integrated animation projections.

About the Forum Lounge Series:  Forum Lounge is a series of free, unique, performance-based events, ranging from the theatrical to the avant-garde that are normally found only in large metropolitan venues, and that reflect CAF’s mission to sustain and encourage the artistic process by presenting art in the form of exceptional music, dance, video, and other multi-media to our community.

Support for Forum Lounge is generously provided by: Endevermusic Productions, the Franciscan Inn, KCSB, Santa Barbara Winery, and the Santa Barbara IndependentForum Lounge is presented in association with the Santa Barbara Downtown Organization’s 1st Thursday.
