Call to Sculpture Artists Bellaire Texas

Proposals are being accepted for an outdoor art exhibit organized with the Nature Discovery Center at Russ Pitman Park, which will take place from March 31 - May 5, 2012.

All installation ideas will be considered. However, preference will be given to topics that concern sustainability and earth related media, which can be integrated and evolve within the eco-system and structures of the park. Ideally, media that is earth/organic materials, environmentally conscious, symbiotic and/or does not require de-installation will be expressly considered. Also, topics related to the politics of human interaction, Houston and Bellaire history, environmental interference and activism are strongly encouraged. Artists from all over America are invited to apply but accepted artists must visit the park and its naturalists for an orientation. *Note: This show is a departure from previously exhibited work at the park.

Proposals may be submitted for existing work, site-specific installations, and/or previously unrealized projects. To apply, send a complete artist's package to: eco.submissions@gmail.com.

Your proposal should include the following items via email NO LATER THAN SEPT. 16TH, 2011:

• An artist statement or project narrative, not to exceed 1 page. *

• A resume or biography

• 8-12 images of previous works (details may be included)

• A list with title, media, size, and year completed for each image

• Videos of performance work may also be included

Russ Pitman Park is a lush 4-acre oasis in Bellaire, just inside the 610 Loop, offering individuals, families, and community groups a place to stroll, play, picnic, and explore nature. The Nature Discovery Center itself is housed in the historic Henshaw House at the north end of the Park. The Park's mix of prairie grasses, tall pecans, native understory and wide lawns is home to a variety of animals, from butterflies and beetles to squirrels and birds. During spring and fall migration seasons, over 80 species of warblers, vireos, orioles and more stop in for food, rest and water.
