Dear friends,
The City of Austin Art in Public Places (AIPP) program seeks to commission a professional visual artist, or artist team, to design and implement a community garden at the new YMCA/North Austin Community Recreation Center. During the design process, the selected artist(s) will work extensively with the local community, through workshops and public events, to develop the garden design. The goal of this project is to produce a unique, functioning and sustainable garden that yields fresh produce for the community.
The City of Austin requests qualifications from professional visual artists, or artist teams, who live in the state of Texas. Artist teams that include design professionals are encouraged to apply. While it is desired for the selected artist(s) to have experience with gardening and plant materials, there will be a number of experts in the field that will be available for technical assistance. Demonstrated experience in projects with significant community participation is desired.
An Artist Information Meeting will be held October 18, 6:00 p.m., at the Cultural Arts Division offices (201 E. 2nd Street). To view the complete Request for Qualifications, visit: http://www.austintexas.gov/aipp/opportunities.htm.
All the best,
Carrie Brown, Art in Public Places Coordinator
