Our annual Open Exhibition call for proposals, deadline February 1, is a chance at a solo exhibition in the Target Gallery. The winner of this opportunity not only receives a solo exhibition but a catalog and small stipend are included.

Our second opportunity is NEST, an all media juried exhibition that is open to all artists nationally and internationally. 2011 Open Exhibition /Call for Proposals
Exhibition Dates: August 20 - September 25, 2011
Deadline for Entry: February 1, 2011
This is an Open Call for proposals for an exhibition in the fall of 2011. This call is open to all artists from North America working in all visual media. Proposals for exhibitions by both individuals and groups will be considered. The individual or group associated with the chosen proposal will receive a solo exhibition at the Target Gallery from August 20 - September 25, 2011. The artist/s will also receive a stipend and an exhibition catalog. Our jurors for this exhibition are Tim Tate, Danielle O'Steen, and Jacqueline Ionita.

About the jurors: Danielle O’Steen is a critic and curator working in Washington, D.C. She has contributed to publications such as Washington Post Express, Art + Auction, Capitol File, DCist, and Flash Art. She is also completing her master’s degree in contemporary art history at George Washington University, where she has curated group exhibitions for Gallery 102.

Tim Tate is a DC native, and has been working with glass as a sculptural medium for the past 25 years. Co-Founder of the Washington Glass School, Tim’s work is in the permanent collections of a number of museums, including the Smithsonian’s American Art Museum, Renwick Gallery and the Mint Museum. While Tim’s work has always been glass based, his newest works feature video and electronic interactive elements. This summer he received an award from the Museum of American Glass in New Jersey as a “Rising Star of the 21st Century”. He will be featured in 2 museum shows in 2010. One is “The New Materiality” at the Fuller Museum and the other is ‘Dead or Alive” at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.

Jacqueline Ionita, a painter and graduate from the Corcoran College of Art + Design, is the Director of Hamiltonian Gallery, a new gallery in the heart of the U Street Corridor which focuses on innovative works by emerging and mid-career artists. Ms. Ionita is also the Program Manager for Hamiltonian Artists, a non-profit organization dedicated to the professional development of emerging artists.

NestExhibition Dates: April 2 - May 15, 2011 Deadline for Entry: February 11, 2011
Nest is an all-media juried exhibition that is open to all artists. This exhibit examines the nest as a symbol for home and refuge. Artists are asked to respond to the theme of nests and how they view this symbol, literally or conceptually.

About the jurors: The juror for this exhibition is Gretchen Shermerhorn, Artistic Director for the Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. Thematically, her work often explores the relationships between humans, science, politics and psychology. Her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally in such places as Northern Ireland, New York, Boston and Washington DC. Her work is in public and permanent collections including the Janet Turner Print Collection and Amity Art Foundation.
