Interior Sculpture for new Boston Avenue Dining Facility
The Texas Tech University System seeks to commission an artist to create a pendant sculpture to be suspended from the ceiling inside the new Boston Avenue Dining Facility. This sculpture will be visible from the exterior of the building through three large, two-story, arched, north-facing windows. Ideal submissions will appeal visually both to student users within the building, as well as to passersby who view the work from the exterior alongside surrounding campus architecture. Preferred materials include glass and other light-reflective media; sustainable or energy-efficient materials are also welcomed. Proposals utilizing color and texture are encouraged, as are designs including kinetic elements. To comply with the building’s structural constraints, proposed sculptures should not exceed 1,500 pounds. In order to be considered, submissions must attend to the conceptual goals outlined in this document. Objects that are mass-produced or of standard manufacture are not eligible for consideration.
$70,000 (All Inclusive). This amount is inclusive of all costs associated with this public art project including, but not limited to, artist fees, other consultants’ fees, insurance to cover the scope of the project, materials, fabrication, transportation, and installation (including any site modification).
