Last Christmas - GEORGE MICHAEL

Artist Interview: Damien Wake

What is your name:

Damien Wake

Do you have a formal art education or are you a self taught artist:

I’m a self-taught person, I’ve learned thanks to books and the Internet and above all, by using tools and software. I also spend a long time perfecting my artistic culture and observing the work of other graphic artists and photographers.

What is the style of your pieces:

It depends on  how I am feeling, but I think I’m a surrealist artist

What is the medium in which you work:

Photography and graphic design

What started you on your path as an artist:

We don’t decide to become an artist overnight. I’ve always been attracted to images and I’m a big cinema enthusiast. During my adolescence, I made a lot of short films in which my friends and I parodied all those films which inspired us. I’ve always felt the need to express what is in the depths of my being. I began painting, and one day a friend of mine asked me to make the album card of his group, so at the time I launched myself into graphic design and photography.

What is one of the most important things that art has brought to your life:

The opportunity to express what i think, what i feel, what i love, what i hate, what i hope, what i want to change, what i want from the future …

What is your favorite genre of art besides the one you work in:

Cinema, poetry, music.
I’m also working on a book titled “Forty niner” and I’m thinking of making a short, 15-minute film. The screenplay has already been written.

Do you have art showings, and if so what are they typically like:

Not yet but I had a lot of interviews and review of my work in magazine.

Do you have a certain set of clothes you make art in:

No.

What has been the most frustrating part of being an artist?

Not to be a full time artist.

What is your favorite sandwich of all time:

A smoked salmon sandwich

Has this year brought about any changes in your work, and if so what are they:

Yes,  im moving to los angeles in march 2012 so things will be different.

Who is your favorite artist alive or dead:

Dalí of course.

Do you have any animals, and what do they think of your work:

I have a cat, but it spend all his time to sleep.

Do you have any upcoming exhibitions you would like to share with us:

Not for the moment.

Over 10,000 points is what I lost.

That was a lot of High Life over a period of a few years. NO SHIT I HAD TO WATCH HIM DRINK IT!

I was looking at the items I could get for that amount and it appeared a shirt was all that I really was going to get since a lot of items are no longer available. A T-SHIRT!!!!!!! THAT'S ALL HE WANTS!!!!!

Your commercials on TV advertise that High Life is for the everyday kind of person. I really liked it and people would talk crap about me drinking it but I didn't care.

Well big corporations are what they are. No Honey its White Trash Beer!

I'll be happy to inform everyone on Twitter and Facebook to think about how I was treated by your company over a lousy 10,000 points. And I'll be happy to inform them that a 30 pack equals 300 points and a 12 pack is 120 points. ALL HE WANTS IS A TSHIRT!!!!

Cheers fuckers!!!!!!!

Sincerely ,

Erick Platten

Thank you for contacting MillerCoors. We appreciate your interest in our products.

Based on our Terms and Conditions if you are inactive for 120 days, all points accrued to date will be expired and no longer available for redemption.  Inactivity means that you have not entered in a code or redeemed for a reward in 120 days.

We apologize for the fact that your points expired. (WHAT!  FUCK YOU!!! -- FUCK YOU RIGHT IN THE BOTTLE NECK MILLER FUCKING HIGH LIFE!!!!!!)   The point expiration system is an automated process that we are unable to prevent or override.  This is the reason why we send out two warning e-mails.  One email at 90 days of inactivity, and another email at 113 days of inactivity.  We apologize for any inconvenience, unfortunately we are unable to reverse point expiration.

We are sorry our response could not be more positive. Rest assured, your comments have been shared with the appropriate personnel. WHAT?  All he wants is a motherfucking SHIRT!  Give the man a damn Shirt ASSHOLES!
Sincerely,

Over 10,000 of my miller high life points have expired. I believed I could use my points until time ran out on the 31st and there is still a counter stating 11 days to go. This isn't right.  I was committed to saving my points and use them during the last month to get something nice. Well this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and as much as I like Miller High Life I don't think I'll drink another one of your beers if my points are not reinstated. I read your clause that says an account that is inactive can lose its points.  Well I guess my 10,000 points of drinking your beer just got pored down the drain. Please reinstate my point because I earned every one of them.  This just isn't right when I really believed the end date was 12/31. I would appreciate a response to my email. I just don't think I could think of a high life beer the same after this incident I worked hard to earn those points. Your consideration is appreciated. Sincerely, Erick Platten

Call to Artists Hanging Sculpture

Interior Sculpture for new Boston Avenue Dining Facility

The Texas Tech University System seeks to commission an artist to create a pendant sculpture to be suspended from the ceiling inside the new Boston Avenue Dining Facility. This sculpture will be visible from the exterior of the building through three large, two-story, arched, north-facing windows. Ideal submissions will appeal visually both to student users within the building, as well as to passersby who view the work from the exterior alongside surrounding campus architecture. Preferred materials include glass and other light-reflective media; sustainable or energy-efficient materials are also welcomed. Proposals utilizing color and texture are encouraged, as are designs including kinetic elements. To comply with the building’s structural constraints, proposed sculptures should not exceed 1,500 pounds. In order to be considered, submissions must attend to the conceptual goals outlined in this document. Objects that are mass-produced or of standard manufacture are not eligible for consideration.

This amount is inclusive of all costs associated with this public art project including, but not limited to, artist fees, other consultants’ fees, insurance to cover the scope of the project, materials, fabrication, transportation, and installation (including any site modification).

National and international submissions are encouraged. 39 artists will be selected for the exhibit. The Exhibit will be displayed April and May 2012 at Island Park along Sarasota, Florida’s beautiful bayfront. Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by more than 1,100,000 visitors. The exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks.

Final selections will be chosen based on artistic excellence in reflection of the theme “embracing our differences”. Submissions will also be evaluated on how effectively it will read outdoors when enlarged to billboard size. Submissions must be postmarked no later than January 9, 2012. There is no submission fee nor limit on the number of entries.

Artist Call Texas: College of Business Administration Renovation

For complete information: http://esbd.cpa.state.tx.us/bid_show.cfm?bidid=97806.

Project Budget: $235,000 (All Inclusive). This amount is inclusive of all costs associated with this public art project including, but not limited to, artist fees, other consultants’ fees, insurance to cover the scope of the project, materials, fabrication, transportation, and installation (including any site modification).

Project Scope: The Texas Tech University System seeks to commission an artist to create an outdoor public sculpture to be located on the lawn at the Northeast corner of the former College of Business Administration (new home to the College of Mass Communications). In light of the building’s new occupants, Texas Tech seeks designs that engage issues of media literacy and the liberal arts education. Media—both digital and more “traditional” forms—have become increasingly important in our lives, encompassing everything from the political process, to entertainment, to quality of life and beyond. Questions to consider may include: What potential effect(s) do media have on people? What is the role of media in a democratic society? How have media affected broader cultural constructs, and how do they continue to do so? Ideal submissions will unify the newly renovated building and the surrounding campus architecture, and will be made of durable, low-maintenance materials. Proposals incorporating color and texture are welcomed. In order to be considered, submissions must attend to the conceptual goals outlined in this document. Objects that are mass-produced or of standard manufacture are not eligible for consideration
