Chicago artist Claudia Smalley will feature her latest collection of artwork at Green Zebra in Chicago which is a continuation of her Synapse series. “Synapse” serves as an interpretation of the biological/mechanical relationships and as a commentary to the human race's dependence on technology to survive. This technology is now such an essential means to connect, transmit and receive information that it's hard to get around the idea of living without it. As inspiration for her work, she looked to biological imagery and used the elements seen in these images to create patterns of gaps and forms to create the gestural work you see within the series.
Claudia has shown work at national venues including the Polish Museum of America and has most been recently been selected by the Chicago Art Institute's Curator of Modern and Contemporary art as an ArtFutura 2011 finalist. Claudia has been featured in local/national/international print publications such as the Chicago Reader, CBS Chicago (web edition), Business News Daily, and La Republica (The national newspaper of Italy).
About Claudia Smalley
Claudia Smalley is a first-generation Polish-American artist whose parents immigrated to Chicago in the late 1970s. Her passion to express creativity through the visual arts originated in her early childhood and continued through college, where she studied Industrial Design and Art History, graduating with Highest Honors. She then continued her studies to receive a dual-MBA from the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign. Her work is frequently the result of studying the color and composition of historical works and then freely reinterpreting them with her own contemporary perspective.
