DALLAS – Moving to Memorial Day weekend May 27 – 29, CityArts Festival presented by Big City Crushed Concrete will offer a spectacular mix of activities and entertainment for families and art aficionados alike to enjoy against the backdrop of historic Fair Park, a national landmark featuring the world’s largest collection of art deco exhibit buildings, art and sculpture. Free and open to the public, CityArts Festival will include an outdoor film Friday night, rooftop fireworks Saturday night, plus ARTFEST will return to its traditional outdoor setting over Memorial Day weekend featuring art by nearly 150 renowned juried artists. Other holiday-weekend highlights include ongoing entertainment; free visits to Fair Park’s eight museums at select times, including the new Texas Museum of Automotive History; an indoor culinary showcase; a super-sized children’s area featuring interactive activities, crafts and entertainment with more than 20 of Dallas’ most prominent arts organizations; CityArts Marketplace; multi-disciplinary demos; “dancing water” shows at the Esplanade Fountain; and more.

The Main Stage sponsored by MetroPCS will be hoppin’ with hot headliners outside the Cotton Bowl. On Friday, the Inner City All-Stars will get jazzy for the opening act at 6 p.m. Then the get-up-and-dance group Synergy will take the stage at 8 p.m. Sponsored by Capital One Bank and hosted by the Dallas Film Society, a FREE outdoor film screening of the 1961 classic “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” will take place at 9 p.m. Friday on the lawn next to the WRR 101.1 building. On Saturday the internationally acclaimed 150+ male chorale group The Vocal Majority Chorus will perform at 7 p.m., followed by a rockin’ show by the nine-member Trubone Band at 8:30 p.m. Afterward, rooftop fireworks sponsored by Gold Metal Recyclers will light the skies above the Cotton Bowl Plaza at 10 p.m. On Sunday at 3 p.m., Havana NRG! will have the crowds boogying to their high-energy Latin dance beats.

The African American Museum will offer free admission from noon – 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can view the museum’s various collections of African art, African-American fine art and African folk art, along with their current exhibitions including Bayou Sculptors.
The Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park will be open until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and will offer free admission to the first 250 visitors on both days. After that, a $2 discount will be offered. (Adult admission will be reduced to $6, and youth and senior admission will be reduced to $4.) Children ages 3 and under receive free admission. Special activities will include a piranha feeding at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and a shark feeding at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. For an additional $2, visitors can feed the stingrays at the popular touch tank of marine creatures and the stingray touch area.
The Hall of State will offer free admission from noon – 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Designed by Donald Bartheleme, the Hall of State was built in 1936 as the centerpiece of the Texas Centennial Exposition. It is renowned for its Arts Deco styling and magnificent interior.
The Museum of Nature & Science will be open from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon – 5 p.m. on Sunday. Regular general exhibit admission is $10 for adults 18-61; $9 for seniors 62+ and students 12-17; $7 for children 2-11; children under 2 are free; MNS members of all ages are admitted for free. Free admission will be offered from 5 – 9 p.m. Saturday. (Charges apply for special exhibits, IMAX® and Planetarium shows.)
Featured activities and programming will include the new summer exhibit “Chinasaurs” at the Science Building; IMAX® films including “Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure,” “Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs” and “Sea Rex: Journey to a Prehistoric World” at the TI Founders IMAX® Theater in the Science Building; and Planetarium shows including “Universe,” “Wonders of the Universe,” “Texas Night Sky” and “Secrets of the Sun.”

Texas Discovery Gardens will be open from 10 a.m. – noon Saturday and Sunday and will offer free admission from noon – 5 p.m. both days. Special activities include butterfly release demonstrations inside the Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium at noon on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors also can enjoy the art exhibition “Outside the Back Door” featuring artist Carroll Swenson-Roberts in a garden-themed show. The colorful pieces explore the patterns found in nature and include seeds and other natural.
The Women’s Museum: An Institute for the Future will offer free admission from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon – 6 p.m. Sunday for guests to view their permanent exhibits and featured exhibit Louise Mailou Jones: A Life in Vibrant Color. Other highlights will include a children’s story hour at 1 p.m. Saturday featuring the book “Angel Child, Dragon Child” by Michele Maria Surat and Vo Dinh Mai.
The new Texas Museum of Automotive History will be open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and will offer free admission from noon – 5 p.m. both days. Special activities include an Indy 500 watch party inside the museum Sunday. (This year marks the 100th anniversary of the famed race!) Various car clubs will be on site, plus Art Cars will be on display in and around the museum. The museum provides an overview look of the automobile’s history from 1901 – 1984 and showcases the interaction between racing and commercial car development through that period.
