Announcing the 1st annual Longview Outdoor Sculpture Gallery
The Longview Outdoor Gallery (LOG)Task Force is excited to announce the call for artists for the 1st Annual Longview Outdoor Gallery Program. This is will be a 2 year rotating program with the pieces being displayed in downtown Longview , Washington Longview
We are seeking artists to display one outdoor sculpture that will be on display/for sale for 2 years. During the first 90 days the community will select the 'People's choice by vote. The LOG Task Force will consummate the purchase of the“people's choice” by the end of the first year. Freestanding and wall mounted sculpture will be considered.
As a way to help improve representation of art by Native Americans and Veterans of Foreign Wars we have reserved no less than one spot for each.
Benefit to the artist
ü Possibility of winning the“People's Choice” award with their piece purchased for permanent display in the city of Longview
ü Your sculpture will be for sale.
ü During the kickoff event artists may connect with potential buyers.
ü Low sales commission of 15% on all pieces except the winner of 'Peoples Choice'.
ü Opportunity to interact with the public, show off work, and make contacts for future sales.
ü Concrete pedestal will be installed for those pieces that need it.
ü Assistance with off loading and loading sculpture.
ü Images of the sculpture to be used in promotional advertisements for the City of Longview
ü The Peoples Choice winner will be brought back, to speak, perform workshops and demonstrations as 'artist in residence' for a week.
Sculpture requirements
The sculpture must be available for sale through LOG. Please note that sculptures may be removed by the artist if sold during the two year timeline.
All work must be original, created by the artists. The sculpture will need to be able to withstand extreme weather variations and interaction with the public. Artist must also allow use of his or her likeness, photos of the sculpture, and biographical information for publicity purposes. No bendable or breakable pieces will be accepted. We will not be accepting fragile, dangerous or pieces that are inappropriate for family viewing. Sculptures must be capable of being secured attached to pedestal or sidewalk. Contact us for details.
Application process
All applications must contain the following:
ü Completed application form
ü Resume and artist statement
ü Each application must include a CD with digital images of the artwork and each image file name must specify the title. Each image submitted must be high resolution, and measure 5" x 7".
ü Each submission must also include information about each sculpture which includes title, dimensions, media, date created, and retail price.
ü Electronic application will not be accepted.
Time line
Deadline for applications:
Postmarked by April 20th, 2011
Notifications will be mailed out by:
Installation to be scheduled with welder.
Kickoff event will be September 10th, 2011 .
Overnight accommodations will be provided for those artists who are from out of town.
