"THE LANGUAGE OF MYTH: New Work by Brent Kollock, and Watercolors by Michael Roque Collins" opens on Saturday, October 30, 2010

(Dallas)  Norwood Flynn Gallery announces “The Language of Myth: New Work by Brent Kollock, and Watercolors by Michael Roque Collins.”  The show opens with an artists’ reception on Saturday, October 30, from 6-8pm and continues through November 20.  In conjunction with the exhibit, there will be a panel discussion by the artists, moderated by Jim Edwards, Gallery Director-Curator for Houston Baptist University’s Art Gallery on Saturday, November 13 at 7pm.


About the Artists:
Brent Kollock  is a Houston-born artist and writer who obtained his BFA from SMU and  lives and works in Dallas.  He has shown at Norwood Flynn Gallery since Fall of ‘09.  His work is included in many private collections throughout the world, and he has shown in galleries in Dallas, Houston and throughout Texas.
 
Michael Roque Collins:  Norwood Flynn Gallery is pleased to have the opportunity to exhibit new watercolors by Michael Roque Collins.  Michael is currently the Director of the School of Art, Artist in Residence and Associate Professor in Art at Houston Baptist University.  Formerly represented by Geoffrey Peters in Dallas, he is also an internationally collected professional artist,  now represented exclusively by LewAllen Contemporary in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  He maintains a very active exhibition schedule, showing extensively both regionally, nationally, and internationally. Mr. Collins’ paintings are represented in permanent collections of over fifteen museums including the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, El Paso Museum of Fine Art, Art Museum of South Texas, San Antonio Museum of Art, Texas A&M University Wayne Stark Museum, College Station, Texas, and both the Lowe and Bass Museum Collections in Miami, Florida. His works have been juried in over 180 local, national and international art exhibitions and he has had thirty solo exhibitions at galleries and museums in the United States, and been selected for major international exhibitions in Germany, Cuba, China and Peru.
 
About the Panelist:
Jim Edwards is Gallery Director-Curator for Houston Baptist University’s Art Gallery as well as Associate Professor in HBU’s Art Department.  Edwards graduated with BFA and MFA degrees from the San Francisco Art Institute and is a Rockefeller Fellow in Museum Education and Community Studies from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.  Considered an authority on modern and contemporary art in the American West, Edwards has curated and directed museums and galleries for more than 30 years.
 
About Norwood Flynn Gallery:
Norwood Flynn Gallery, housed in a 1940's cottage on the south shore of Bachman Lake, represents contemporary art by emerging and mid career artists.  The gallery exhibits and sells paintings, sculptures, drawings, photography, & new media, with an emphasis on unique Texas artists.
