ONSITE SCULPTURE COMPETION
The City of Killeen and Civic and Conference Center invite eligible artists to apply for consideration to demonstrate their carving talents during the spring “Take 190 West Salutes the Arts Festival”.
THE EVENT
On February 28 through March 6 of 2011, The City of Killeen together with the Killeen Independent School District (KISD), the Killen Civic and Conference Center (KCCC) and Visitors Bureau, and the Killeen Art Guild will be hosting the Take 190 West Arts Festival. It is Killeen's week-long salute to the arts and involves local partners including the City of Killeen, the Killeen Independent School District, the Killeen Art Guild and the Killeen Convention and Visitors' Bureau.
Events include a student art show, a student film festival, writing and drawing workshops culminating in an Artists and Authors event featuring professional artists, illustrators and authors. Highlights of the 'Artists and Authors' event will include a juried art show, an onsite sculpture competition, book vendors, and book signings with national and regional authors which takes place Friday and Saturday, March 4 & 5, 2011
Up to ten (10) artists will be pre-selected to participate in the onsite sculpture competition. Limestone blocks measuring 12” x 12” x 36” will be provided for sculptors on Friday, March 4th at 7:30 a.m. Selected artists will begin working on their sculpture at 8 a.m. Artwork must be an original creation of the artist and must be completed by “Chisel Down” at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5th. Works of art will be evaluated by a panel of 3 judges. Awards will be given out Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
Selected artists will receive a stipend of $100.00 to offset travel and other costs. Selected artists will also have Friday night accommodations provided for them.
All pieces completed will remain in Killeen for a period of 1 year.
ELIGIBILITY Participation is open to all U.S. artists. Students may not apply.
AWARD CATEGORIES: 1st Place: $1,500.00 2nd Place: $1,000.00 3rd Place: $ 500.00
ARTIST AGREEMENT
Artwork must be the original creation of the artist.
Artwork must be appropriate for public viewing and not be of any offensive nature.
Artist has the option of offering the completed piece for sale, however, if a sale is made the new owners may pick up the piece with a bill of sale from the artist at the end of the year period.
The Take 190 West Salutes the Arts Festival will retain a 15% commission on all completed pieces that are sold.
Artist may decide to retain a booth in the indoor art show.

File Format: Baseline JPEG (do not use progressive JPEG format)
Compression: Please size each image to be no more than 1.8 MB in file size. On average, each image will roughly be 1.2 MB. Larger is not necessarily better.

SELECTION PROCESS
An appointed jury panel made up of community members and local visual artists will review and select the artists on a competitive basis to participate in the Sculpture Contest 2011. Completed sculpture will be judged on Saturday, March 5th and prizes will be awarded to winners Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
MATERIALS Artists are required to bring all the necessary tools to carve on site. The city of Killeen will provide the stone, electricity and a tent in which the event is to take place.
