The Artists Dream-- What do Artists Want?

Every artist has a dream for themselves. Sometime the daydreaming thoughts can take you to places far away.  Are the places the same every time?  Do they change?  What do they look like?

For some it may be having a good solid gallery representation for others it may be fame and fortune.

The things that I want are probably not the same things you may want.

So if I were to dream a big dream -- I would like to be an artist who travels the world in the name of art.  Going from one residency to another, in creative communes, without the pressure of sales.  I would like to paint and and have the ability to execute any idea that popped into my head-- be it an installation of VW bugs or painting the side of a building.  I would like to be surrounded by other artists who were passionate and were strong in realizing their vision.  OH-- and I would have fabulous food and the occasional drink.

Where does your mind take you?

  1. My definition of artistic dream success is one where my paintings sell for $40,000-$60,000 a pop and gallery representation is a given on the east and west coast and anywhere in between, my work is featured in numerous magazines and is owned by several museums, yet I can still go out in public and be a regular person. After I die my work can sell for millions.

  2. Traveling the world meeting indigenous people who body paint, painting clients and learning about different cultures while holding a studio space where I can retreat, create visual art pieces and feed my cats.

  3. As of today my dream was granted. I signed the lease and now have a place big enough to have a gallery, studio, and live space. I no longer need to deal with galleries and can create the complete, unrestricted atmosphere that I have been belly aching for. Plus it is zoned residential and commercial. Sometimes in the world of art dreams come do come true.

  6. Sonia-
My dreams are more like yours. I just want to paint, write and teach others that art is way more than decorative. It is a source of healing and growth. Just getting to be an artist is an amazing honor.
I hope to keep painting and breaking new ground with my work.

  7. i just want to be able to produce work all the time. i go through what feel like long dry spells. i've made a living painting scenery and murals (other people's ideas of what i should produce), and it was not all it was cracked up to be, so now i just want the creative force to always be with me, so i can constantly be drawing or painting something i love.
