CHROMESTHESIA GROUP SHOW IN TRIBECA NYC

NEW YORK, NY-  The McNeill Art Group is pleased to announce the opening of Chromesthesia at the McNeill Art Group Tribeca Project Space. Chromesthesia is a group exhibition featuring painting, photography and sculpture by American artists Tyrome Tripoli, Perry Burns, Sally Egbert, Jeff Muhs, Tapp Francke, Darlene Charneco, Matthew Satz, Sean Brannan and Scott Malbaurn.  The exhibition is curated by Beth McNeill.   An opening reception will take place on Wednesday, February 16^th, 2011 from 6-9pm.   A press preview will be held on Wednesday, February 9th, from 3-5pm. 

Chromesthesia is a specific type of synesthesia, in which non-visual stimulation results in the experience of color sensations.  Color is a language.  Color has meaning.  To Itzak Perlman, a chromesthete, playing a B flat on the G string evokes a deep forest green color.  For Maureen Seaberg, author of “Tasting the Universe” and a chromesthete, she knows that Tuesday is golden. This involuntary experience occurs in as much as 1 in 23 people.  Artist David Hockney is a synesthete, as are musicians Billy Joel and Pharrell Williams.  You are invited to challenge your visual sense modality.  Might you hear trumpets sounds when you see ‘Tilted Tornado’ by Scott Malbaurn? Or will you smell salt water when you see ‘Rebirth’ by Tapp Francke?  Artist Jeff Muhs heard musical notes when he painted ‘The Meaning of Green’. Come and experience the color sensation of Chromesthesia.

The exhibit will be on view through May 2, 2011.  The reception will feature a colorful food presentation by Mark Farher Caterers.  This installation will allow you to “taste” the effects of color on flavor perception.
