Artist Opportunity – Call to Artists – Kathryn Heard-Craig Juried Art Exhibition, McKinney



The Art Club of McKinney issues a Call to Artists for their upcoming show. The Kathryn Heard-Craig Juried Art Exhibition will accept entries through February 7th, and will open from March 11th - March 13th. Location: Heard-Craig Hall, 306 North Church Street, McKinney, Texas 75069

MISSION The mission of the Kathryn Heard-Craig Juried Exhibition and Sale is to encourage both established and emerging artists who live in Collin County, or are associated with visual arts organizations in Collin County, to exhibit their art, compete for prize money, and sell their art.

JURORS/JUDGES Jurors who play a significant role in the artistic community of Collin County will critique all work and select the finalists. Tricia Taylor Dixon, curator of the Cowgirl Museum in Fort Worth, will judge the 2D Traditional category. Mary Vernon, currently Associate Professor of Art, Meadows School of the Arts, SMU, will judge the 2D Contemporary category. Ms. Vernon is represented by Valley House Gallery, Dallas. CATEGORIES Each artist may submit a maximum of three works for consideration. The artist must indicate in which category each piece is to be entered. If the jurors consider another category more appropriate for the work, the artist will be consulted before a change of category is made. All works must be the original work of the artist. Photographs, computer-generated, digital, or giclee prints will not be accepted for consideration at this time. 2D works are limited to oil, acrylic, water media, egg tempera, encaustic and pastel works. Prints created through traditional processes, such as engravings and block prints, are accepted provided the edition is limited and controlled by the artist. 2D works include two categories: Traditional - Apparent emphasis must be on traditional/academic technique, style and/or subject matter. Contemporary - Apparent emphasis must be on the appropriate use of a variety of media in a uniquely personal style and/or subject matter. 3D works are considered one category and include sculpture, ceramics, and any free-standing or hanging piece of three dimensional work. AWARDS The total awards will be approximately $2000 in cash and prizes,with a $500 First Place Award in each category.

COMMISSION 5% of all sale prices will be collected as a donation to the Heard- Craig Center for the Arts, McKinney, Texas. The Heard-Craig Center is dedicated to the preservation and study of Texas art, and has a growing collection of Early Texas Art.  The remaining sale price will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of close of exhibition.  

ELIGIBILITY The artist: Must be 18 years old or older. Must be a resident of Collin County or associated with a visual arts organization in Collin County. Does not need to be a member of the Art Club of McKinney. ENTRY 

GUIDELINES The artist can submit up to three works for consideration. 2D works: The longest dimension shall not exceed 50” and shortest dimension shall not exceed 40”, including frame. 3D works: Three views must be submitted for each piece and the combined dimensions (height, length and width, all added together) shall not exceed 70” inches. The artist retains copyright of their work. Once accepted into the competition, images of the work become part of the Art Club of McKinney archives and may be used in publicity for this and future shows. The artist's name and copyright will be included in all publicity.

FEES Non-refundable entry fees are: $20 for students (high school, college and graduate school) $25 for members of the Art Club of McKinney $35 for all others 

SUBMISSION All artists must download and fully complete the application form and email it to juried@theartclubofmckinney.com. (Application soon will be available on the website.) The entry fee must be submitted through the PayPal page on this website using either a credit card, debit card, or a PayPal account. A digital image of each work must be emailed to juried@theartclubofmckinney.com. The image name must be lower case and in the format artist-first-name-artist-last-name, name-of-work.jpg. The name of the work on the application form, the jpg, and the actual work of art MUST be the same. Example: anne-royer-guitar-horses.jpg The image must be 300dpi, minimum file size = 1 megabyte, maximum file size 2 megabytes. Slides or images on CD/DVD will not be accepted. All submissions must be received by midnight 02/07/11. Artists will be notified by email that their work has been accepted or not accepted by 02/14/11. 

ACCEPTED WORKS All art work must be hand-delivered to the exhibition site on 03/08/11 between the hours of 9am and noon, and 03/09/11 between the hours of 4:30pm and 8pm. All 2D work must be either framed, gallery wrapped (min. 1” thick), or on min. 1” thick support with finished edge. All 3D work must be ready to display with any stands and title plates securely fastened. The art work may be priced for sale. The sale price must include the Texas state sales tax and the artist is responsible for reporting the sales tax to the State of Texas. The art work may be pre-sold but must hang in gallery for the duration of show. Art work cannot be removed from the exhibition space before the close of the exhibition.
