On Saturday, November 19, Afterimage Gallery will be very pleased to begin a show of landscape images by nationally known photographer Joyce Tenneson. This show is a departure from her well known nude and semi-nude portraiture, which we exhibited here over 32 years ago.

Our show is entitled Trees and the Alchemy of Light. It consists of quiet, mood-evoking photographs of trees in soft light, and all the prints have a gold tone, resembling earlier prints when she actually applied gold leafing.

Of this work she says, "Trees, throughout history, have inspired deep symbolic meaning in cultures around the world. The "tree of life" metaphor expresses the mystical concept that all forms of life are interconnected. When we stand with the trees, we feel we are part of them, and they are part of us. They give us a sense of belonging to the greater universe."

Joyce Tenneson's (born 1945) photographs have been in some 150 exhibitions throughout the world. Her prints can be found in many museum and private collections. She has authored 15 books and has been on numerous magazine covers. A poll in American Photo magazine ranked her among the 10 most influential women photographers in history. She makes her home in Maine. Our show ends January 17, 2017.
