I LOVE ART 2016 Art Auction
DALLAS, TX – I LOVE ART 2016 Art Auction is a high-end pop-up art fundraiser featuring some of Dallas' professional painters, sculptors, photographers and more. Every artist was selected for his or her unique connection to Dallas. This is an unconventional type of art auction because Color Me Empowered has agreed to split the sales with the artist. 50% will benefit Color Me Empowered and 50% will go back to the artist. We are expecting 60+ works of art created specifically for this art auction. All local artists are encouraged to attend our event and sign up to participate in next years I LOVE ART 2017 Art Auction. Dallas artist, George Mendez, will be live-painting an oil on canvas to be auctioned at the end of the night. Music by DJ DAPOW.
This art auction is one night only, free to attend and open to the public.
A $10 donation, at the door, is suggested to assist Color Me Empowered’s community efforts.

COLOR ME EMPOWERED is a 501c3, based in Dallas, TX, empowering at-risk children while improving neglected communities through public art. Kristen Elizabeth Rice Jackson founded Color Me Empowered in 2009. Their projects tie-in cross-curricular activities, such as math, writing, and creative problem solving with real-world applications to the subjects students are learning in school. They work on designing civic art projects for a very low cost. They believe that giving children the opportunity to improve their immediate community will enable them to appreciate the power that art can have and the ability within themselves to bring about positive change to their direct communities. They work with a team of highly qualified artists, designers, teachers and contractors to provide children with the very best resources to teach them basic art skills while creating public art pieces.
KRISTEN ELIZABETH RICE JACKSON grew up in rural South Texas. After finishing her BFA at Baylor University in 2002, she moved to Dallas and began teaching elementary art in Dallas ISD in 2005. After several years at Polk Elementary, she was impressed by how her students continued to rise to the artistic challenges she put before them. She did a school-wide public art project with her students and the results were so fantastic, she decided to organize Color Me Empowered, along with Chavalia Mwamba and Amy Kilpatrick, to help facilitate more student-created public art projects throughout the city. In addition to running Color Me Empowered, Kristen is an artist who works in several mediums. While lately she has been focusing almost entirely on metal sculpture, she continues to draw and paint, which are her artistic foundations. Her art is motivated by the human struggle, striving to reveal universal emotions with earnestness and distinction. She believes in the redemptive quality of all things and tries to reflect this belief in all her work.

TEXT:
apexart is accepting proposals for its Unsolicited Exhibition Program (UEP) beginning October 1. Winning proposals will be presented at apexart’s New York City space as part of next season’s exhibition program. Curators, artists, writers, and creative individuals, regardless of experience level or location, are invited to submit ideas online from October 1 - 31, 2016.
• The Submission Process: Proposals should describe focused, idea-driven, and original group exhibitions. They cannot exceed 500 words and must be written in English. No biographical information, CVs, links, or images should be included within the application - just describe the exhibition you want to create and why. Projects are judged by the strength of their ideas and the organizer’s ability to communicate, rather than by familiar names or past accomplishments.
• The Selection Process: An international jury, composed of more than 150 individuals from a wide variety of professional backgrounds, rates the proposals. Submissions are rated online, where their order is randomized and submitter information is removed. Rather than convene a small panel to review hundreds of ideas, we use a system of crowd-sourcing wherein many jurors each review a subset of proposals. Our exhibition season is intended to be merit-based and compelling to both our established followers as well as to a wider audience with diverse interests, and our jury composition assures this. apexart does not influence the results of the jury. The organizers of the three highest-ranked proposals receive funding for the proposed exhibition as well as an honorarium, and work closely with the apexart team to turn their idea into an apexart exhibition.
